Aid Sector Research and Strategy Development
Challenge
The International Rescue Committee sought to develop a strategy for Haiti through research and analysis of Haiti’s arc of crisis and the mapping of regional resources for Haitians living in Haiti or migrating through the Americas.
Process and Solution
What we did: We reviewed key existing reports, leveraged agency and professional networks to discuss the roots and challenges of Haitians and Haiti’s civil society as they faced migration and humanitarian issues. Interviewed over sixty (60) leaders in the philanthropy, humanitarian, development and government sectors of Haiti as well as of South, Central and North American countries. We identified key crisis issues including the regional nature of Haiti’s arc of crisis and recommended specific solutions that guided the agency’s new strategy for the country.
Outcomes
IRC reinvolved itself in Haiti and developed a locally led approach for its country program. It also developed an emergency communication platform to help Haitian migrants to identify the comprehensive resources that they need throughout their journey throughout the Americas.
